the Kitchen facelift
The Background Story…
This home started with a 10 year old builder quality kitchen which included cherry cabinets, and dark laminate countertops. The clients had a tight budget and a desire to get as much return for as little investment as possible. The main objective was to modernize, brighten and create more usable workspace and flow.
BEFORE
DESIGN ELEMENTS
We started by stripping the cabinets of all the hardware and removing all doors and drawer faces. Then we removed the old and well used laminate countertops. The raised bar was lowered to counter height to give the kitchen a more open concept and more usable counter space since the kitchen offered little countertop work space. All the cabinets, doors, and drawers fronts were prepped for primer and paint and sprayed with a white Benjamin Moore cabinet enamel for long lasting durability. Then the new countertops were formed for pour-in-place concrete counters using 5,000 lb. psi fiber reinforced cement with an added black die to darken the gray cement just a bit. An under mount stainless steel single basin sink was included in the countertop layout. Once the cement countertops were dry they were polished to create a smooth and easy to care for surface topped with a paste wax. Cabinet doors and drawers were reinstalled with new hardware. This transformation shows even with just a small budget you can make a big difference and create a space that will last the test of time.
