Kitchen Island Shiplap Project

I must say that I absolutely love my kitchen. When we were designing our home we both knew that the emphasis would be on the kitchen. Our kitchen features a double wall oven (that was a must for Josh), marble countertops, a farmhouse sink (my must have), gas stove top and coffee bar.

We added the shiplap around the island because it hadn't been a week and my children had scuffed and left marks on the brand new paint. The pro to shiplap is that it is durable and depending on the paint you select to finish it with, you can wipe it clean with a rag.

For this project Josh used shadow gap shiplap found at our local Lowes. He moved the existing trim from the knee wall and wrapped the island base cabinets to give the island a freestanding feel as opposed to the knee wall and base combo. This gives the island a higher end look without the hefty price tag associated with a custom built island. Capped corners with paint grade pre-primed 1x8 pine to give a more robust look which also hid the corner joints of the shiplap, making the installation much easer and lower skilled. Finished off with quarter round.
